Hello

I have a standard MY-99, which is getting close to ending it’s 3-year warranty period. Obviously I’ve looked at various upgrades to the car but have been put off by the potential warranty issues, now I’m in a position to make the changes I am confused by the sheer number of options.

My dealer at the last service said the brakes will need replacing soon, plus my tires are pretty worn and I want new exhaust (probably the scoobysport job). Is there any layman advice for the best results with not too huge an outlay?

Thanks

Hiya there!
Ok, mods... first thing first, hows your insurance company on them?? some wont even let you do the simplest of mods to your scoob yet others dont mind
Basically what you want to upgrade first IMHO are the alloy wheels and tyres to 17's as these give the best general grip and performance on the road.
Secondly, after fitting your alloy wheels your going to need to upgrade your brakes, a nice brembo/ap 4 or 6pot system is normally good or there are other makes if you do a search for brakes on the forum (think there is a group buy going on in wheels/tyres/brakes at the mo.
Next after that would be an exhaust system, depending on what you wanted you could go for several, scoobymania, scoobysport, PE, HKS etc, then you would want a chip.... lots of options but the favourites seem to be PPP chip or the Knock link.
So given the fact that your going to need bigger brakes (cos the std ones are pretty useless IMHO even if they are 4pots) that will lay you back 1k, wheels can cost say another 1k, chip will cost you 1.5k exhaust another 5-600 quid so you looking at around 4k for all the goodies your going to need for a basic upgrade of your scoob to around 270-80 bhp but it should be worth it

Can only mirror what Tony has said.

check with insurance company first, explain what you want to do and see what they say.

then i'd go for wheels, then brakes, then performance mods.

I had the problem of having the care pre-modded when I got it and I'm only now getting round to sorting wheels and brakes, but after that I'll know it'll stop whatever performance mods I throw at it.

David,
The best mod i ever did to my car was change from 16's to 17's with SO-2's and definately more grip and better ride than the std subaru items.
Wheels are just as important as any other modification, they may look nice on your car and for 1k are worth the money (can be lighter than the std items too!)

Did you have SO2's before you change wheels?
