Is it connected to the ecu you have now?
If so pop open the ecu to see where it is connected inside then post up a picture or 2

Been a while

Got back onto this subject after talking to someone who does rally prep to see if they have come across it, and he thought it was strange

Basically he was under the impression for ah 96 v3 Sti, it should have 4 yellow connector ecu ???
Basically he was baffled when i removed it and there is 3 yellow and 1 white, opened up the ecu and there is no piggy back chips so 2 Questions that i'm intrested in

1. What is the proper ecu for a 96/97 V3 Jap Sti?

2. What is the spare connector for thats currently pictured above for ??

That connector is the common connection for the earthing from injectors, sensors et al, it is essential to have it in place but its not "spare".

Your three plug ecu indicates the car is a MY97 not a MY96, bear in mind that a MY97 car ran from Sept 1996 to August 1997. So your man is not correct.

cheers

Enduring Solutions Limited

The early ecus have a spare slot that a daughterboard can be soldered onto

right ok, i wanna get my car mapped to run on uk fuel for peace of mind, when i 1st picked the car up on friday the 7th aug, it was empty i didnt know where i was so pulled into a station and had to put normal 95 ron in they didnt have sul, i emptied that in less than 12hrs cuss i was nailing the car to see what it was like the car gave me no problems, after reading i shouldt use 95 i switched to texaco 97 ron thats the best i can get in chepstow again no problems i even drove 110miles the other day to devon where i am now and it didnt play up, like i said just for peace of mind, what is the chepest option to get the car mapped to run on 97 ron fuel, the car is near standard, only things it had is dc sports air filter pipe ngk ht leads and a hks ssqv 2 bov, i went to a new tuning place which has opened here in torbay and im booked in there fri they quoted my for a hours labour ro remapp about £50, if it cant be mapped he said he wont charge me, but you guys are saying the oem sti 3 ecu cant be mapped is this correct?

judging by the sound of this I WOULD UN-BOOK your car as this chap does not have a clue! its not just a case of downloading a map form x y z for and loading it on, the only way that your ecu is mappable is by fitting it with a standalone ecu which down you way would be best a simtek from the engine tuner.
