Default Sports/Fast flow Downpipe

People i have a newage system fitted to my classic and it knocks and bangs about as it is not fitted right, so i am looking for a new system.

my thoughts were to go with a SPORTS/FAT FLOW DOWNPIPE - and CENTRE DECAT PIPE - finished off with the STI GENOME back box that i have on the way from japan.

i was looking at the the downpipes from :

scoobyworld - Ninja Downpipe with 100 Cell Fast Flow Sports Cat £299

Hayward and scott - Subaru Impreza Classic down pipe with a high flow cat £558

Revolution - revolution high flow cat £349


who is using what and how do you find them? there is a price jump to the hayward and scott are these that much better compared to the ninja etc?

as for decat centre pipes

scoobyworld - afterburner decat centre section (plus silencer)

scoobyclinic - Magnex Centre pipe (plus they do it with a resonator pipe) this may seem stupid but i assume that helps to reduce the sound of the exhaust same as the silencer

any help opinions would be great

Default downpipe

I have a TSL Thundercat sports cat downpipe and decated centre section on my MY98, it did not make as much difference soundwise as i thought it would. the biggest change for me came from the backbox. I have put my Magnex box back on and in the car it is restrained from outside it does sound good under power.

I have the Ninja 100 cell fast cat down pipe and double resonated centre section fitted onto an afterburner vortex.

Quite quiet on tickover and not too loud on full pelt. Tooo quiet for me so I have just ordered a decat down pipe and straight through centre to liven things up a bit.

If you decide to got the ninja route this will be for sale in a week or so along with the double resonated centre section.

However if you want to here it run as is to guage loudness etc you are more than welcome to come over or I can meet you somewhere.

mcvicar i might be well interested mate, can you tell me

what power you have managed to get out of it?

and how do you find the resonated pipes are they restrictive as a silencer?

any pointers

Not restritive so I have found but i'm sure someone will say different.
The car is running at 325/325 but obviously with the supporting mods, so works very well IMO.

Dont Know the age of the centre pipe but I presume it was don the same time as the down pipe. The downpipe is approx 3 yrs old and done roughly 8000kms so not even run in really.
The fella I bought it off just used it for occational weekend use as he commuted to london for work.

This is all fitted to MY96 WRX

When he had it on the rolling road it was running
440cc
255 walbro
TDo5 16g
Hybrid FMIC
Apexi Induction
Apexi ECU and controller
AVCR
Blitz DV
Mapped to 1.4 peak
Ported Heads
Think the cams have been changed at some point to.

Still running the same set up now but in need of a remap due, still quite quick though.

I'm also intrigued as to people's opinions on the differences on these downpipes, it's a fairly considerable jump in price to the hayward...
Anyone?

seems to be 4 common ones the

scoobyworld at £299
revolution £349
tsl at £395
hayward and scott £558

as above £300 or £550 big difference it would b egood to hear opinions from others who have or are using them!

MCVICAR a very close match to mine mate other the i run 550's and vf28 the rest is the same i am running 318bhp 303lbs, would the fit be the same fr4om a 96 to 99 mine is a uk car too!

also how and what does the resonator pipe do/work on the centre pipe seen the offered as decatted but with or without the resonator, are they restrictive?does it make it quieter but keep performance

can someone clear it up for me

I had a hayward and scott sportscat on my Forester(bought second hand). It wasn't loud, It gave a shed load more torque over stock, and the quality of construction, and fit, was simply beautiful. Doubtless, the same quality applied to it's innards , too.
I can't comment on the other two, but would I pay nearly £600 for it? No!
Now, if everyone could see it, Maybe!

I have the Scoobyworld sports cat coupled with a H&S centre and back box. I suspect the H&S sports cat will have slightly heavier gauge steel used, but no idea about the cat innards. While the Scoobyworld cat is very well put together and a perfect fit, the engineering of the H&S parts is simply stunning! From the pictures, the H&S cat actually looks wider too, so a lot of the extra money may well be in the cat.

PS If you weren't aware, the 100 cell refers to 100 cells per square inch, ie a 10x10 grid, so the standard 400 cell is a 20x20 grid per square inch...

ok they all seem to be sold as a 100 cell so i dont think that makes much difference but thanks for the info as i did not know that.

i dont doubt for a second that the h&s does look like a very nice peice of kit but if the scoobyworld and h&s are both 100 cell what is the difference between them, to make a £250 difference in price, they both are stainless steel so will last, is there that much cost difference in welding etc.

what about the tundercat by TSL no one use that

also slim have you had your car on the track, and have the statci and drive by figures, also trying to get a system that will allow track days without using a bung or going to a std back box as i would rather not restrict anything

The TSL is very well made and was a perfect fit without issues, it is a bellmouthed pipe so the wastegate sound was more noticable, I was going to go to Castle Combe recently but my car would not have passed the 100db noise limit.

The only other consideration with a sports cat is that some of the cheaper ones use a 100 cell cat in a very small diameter tube, thus they can be restrictive, i can only comment on the TSL and its huge. Hope this makes sense.

Ninja is a 2.5" downpipe and i'm sure the H&S is a 3" downpipe and comes with adapter pieces to fit either a 2.5" or a 3" system

the ninja is 3" and narrows down to the standard 2.5 center pipe flange
