Question Alternator or Immobiliser

Hi All,

New owner here with a problem and am looking for advice / help

I have got an 1999 Impreza 2.0 Sport.

when I turn on the ignition and start the car the battery light wont go out unles I rev the car up and over 5000rpm it then clears the fault , if I dont do that , the car generally dies after a few miles , with the check engine light , ABS , Handbrake , Battery light coming on , the speedo goes etc etc

I have been advised it could be either a faulty Alternator or possibley a problem with the Immobiliser.

Has anyone had any issue's like this , and can offer advice ?

Your help is much appreciated

Cheers

Check your alternator by measuring your battery voltage. It should be 13.8 to 14.2 volts with the engine running.

Cheers for that will give that a go tonight , So I assume if I check it first with out clearing the battery light it will read around 9 or 10 volts if the alternator is faulty ?

why would the increased rev count clear the fault though , sorry I aint to hot on mechanics etc ..

STart the engine, rev it up so the light goes out then let it go back to idle. Whilst the car is idling check the voltage, it should be around 14.2v

Go back in the car and whack your lights on.. the alternator should still be putting out the same voltage.. but you may have to open the throttle up a smidge by hand to get it to 14+ v

Well I tired the suggestions above and the results

Started the car and left the it idle with the battery light on , and the Multi meter test showed the battery slowing loosing charge.

Re-done the test with the battery light off and the battery held charge around 14.5 V and stayed there and dropped slightly to 14.3 V when I turned on the lights

I have had the alternator tested and they have ben advised it is fine , so am I looking at a possible eletrical fault ?

Ok Been asking a few mates also on this issue

has anyone everyheard of a Lazy Alternator ?

Also from reading different help sites , I think the alternator has an IC Regulator on it , has anyone had any experience of that and is a part that can be replaced ?

Cheers
