Default STI 8 Gearbox

Where is the best place in London/Essex for STI 8 gearbox rebuild? and what sort of price should i expect to pay?

At the moment it is only 4th into 5th gear syncro that is playing up and needs to be repaired but was thinking about doing the whole box while it was out!

Also what oil should be used in the box?

Thanks

Yep totally my fault, started to reel him in and then got too excited when changing into 5th and let the clutch up too quick!!!!

Now 4th into 5th at high rev's won't go in without man footing the thing in there, so now I change into 6th then back down to 5th with the anti lag on

or I wait for the revs to drop below 2k and it goes in without a fuss!

I had the gearbox from my evo IV rebuilt by Wimbledon Automatics in southwest London. It was a first for them but they done a brilliant job and was at a reasonable price.

It's a common problem on the Uk 6 speed box due to the vast difference in gear ratio's from 4th to 5th.

The synchro ring cost about £20, but I would imagine youl'll get charged around 12-14 hours labour to take the box out change the synchro and put it all back together.

£20 sounds good, i will take the box out myself but taking apart and rebuilding is beyond me!

I will leave that part to the pro's

is replacing the syncro/setting it up a difficult job? how many hours do you think is required?

thanks

The sychro goes in a set position so does not need setting up, I'm not entirely sure of the time involved with the six speed, but I would say shouldn't take more than 5-6 hours to open the box up change and put back together.
