Default ABS fault

Hiya

I dont know if anyone can help. I have a very annoying ABS fault that seems to be intermittant. I took it to a garage as the ABS light came on & when I braked I had a bizzare vibration under my foot & a funny noise. I have now been told that this is the ABS cutting in as there is a fault?! It only does this now & again, which doesn't help! The garage put new discs & pads on the front as the discs looked warped so they thought this was bringing the ABS light on. They also said that it looked like my brake fluid has been boiling over & they didn't know why! I picked the car up thought all was fine & dandy no light came on. Then as I am on my way out a few hours later im driving along havn't even touched the brake & the brake warning light is back on & every now & again it still does the noise & judders! I have left it for a little while cus I was hoping that the light would end up staying on continiously but it still doesn't! As soon as I switch the engine off the light goes & might not come back on for a while!

I have just come back from lunch & this time I could hear a funny wirring noise when I was in low gears getting ready to park & thought whats going on & as I braked the light came on & the ABS kicked in again!

I have no idea where to go with this & I know it needs to go to the garage but I just wondered if anyone had any idea what this could be before I chuck loads of money at it!!

Many thanks!

To be honest, you need to go to a dealer or a specialist that have the equipment to read your fault codes in the braking system.

When your light comes on it should log a fault in the system which will tell you which part is faulty.

It sounds very much like you have a problem with one of your wheel speed sensors giving an incorrect reading, which in turn makes the system think you are about to lock a wheel and then triggers the abs. you just need to know which one it is.

Stay away from fitting any more brake pads/discs front or rear, as this is def not your problem as they would NEVER bring an abs light on no matter how badly worn or warped they are.

Good luck
Phil

Hiya! Thanks so much for your help. I am going to take your advise & take it to a specialist & see what they say. Fingers crossed that will get it sorted!

Have a simialr problem with ABS cutting in at really low speeds. have been advised it could be either a speed sensor dirty / faulty, or the ABS ring on the drive shaft coud be cracked and giving a strange reading and setting the abs off.
