EZ30 to EZ30R upgrade (outback)??
Hey all,
been lurking for a while reading up and it's time for my first post (I know, try and contain your excitement). I have the ******* stepchild Subaru - the H6 Outback, 2004 to be specific (US car). When I bought this car I asked the salesman "why don't they put a turbo 4 in the outback?" he said he didn't know. I asked "then why don't they bump the H6 up in HP by 30-40?" he didn't know. Starting in the 05 model year what do we see, a turbo 4cyl outback and the H6 model given the "R" engine which brings it from 210bhp to 250....just my luck.
anyway, I have around 60,000 on the car right now and was looking into some enhancements. it seems that people are starting to stuff EZ30R motors into WRX chassis which is spawning a market for pistons, rods, heads, etc which gave me some hope but then I did some research and found the R motor has a different head, exhaust setup and throttle system. So my question to the mod gurus here is what would it take to "upgrade" a stock 04 EZ30 to a EZ30R? I figured a head swap and new exhaust system but the throttle by wire crap seems like it will cause the most issue....am I wrong here?
I know this isn't the ideal platform for performance, but it's what I have and it's paid for. I'm not looking to run 10s in the quarter mile, just want a bit more zip ya know!
thanks,
Peter
