Should be fine mate, i drove mine for a week without a remap, you may get some overrun and a few pops and bangs. Better to be rich than lean!

I did mine and it took me ages, simply because i was reluctant to cut the spade connectors off the wires that joined the fuel level gauge and the negative from the pump. Also i didn't have any solder so was contemplating just twisting and taping but in the end asked a friendly neighbour if he had any solder (which he did naturally - builder) My soldering skills are as good as my javelin throwing skills........

you may run into the same thing on your pump assembly (not the javelin - wouldn't want to run into one of those)

if its a walbro just cut both negative and postive spade connectors off the existing wiring and use the two new wires from the pump, so in total three wires joined per +POLE- ! Make sure to tape it afterwards though

cheers for the info mate, but its fitted already..took me a couple of hours due to the pipes not wanting to come off the tank top,but apart from that, job done..no cutting soldering or twisting in sight. just plug in and play

Is there any harm fitting a Walbro instead of the OE fuel pump and not having it remapped to suit?

hmm, I am wondering that too as I need to do mine prior to the map and a full decat!

Last thing I'd want to do is damage the engine!

Ive had one fitted and drove it a few days before the remap with no problems.Make sure that all the seals around the pump are either replaced or if not,at least seated ok.I was driving around with a terrible fuel smell for a few weeks as the seal hadn't been replaced properly.Fuel was leaking from around the seal and perished it.No problems now though!

What about if you`re fitting a Walbro as a replacement for an OE pump?

Would it be alright to use in the long term?

The pump only supplies the amount of fuel that the engine uses, the pressure regulator controls the pressure (unless broken !).
The up-rated pump is capable of supplying more fuel if needed.

tape would have come off and dropped into tank and then bare wires moving about is not ideal in fuel tank..

eek
