The main pulley coming off my crank is buckled, it wobbles around so much it threw off the pas/altinater belt!

What would cause this?

I am also getting a knocking from the engine which got much worse after the belt came off...

I thought it sounded like the dreaded big end bearing but i am inclined to try a new pulley.......

What do you think?

sounds like crank pulley is/was loose hopefully if it was it hasnt worn the crank end just the pulley centre

 

If the woodruff key hasnt damaged the keyway in the snout of the crank,you can get away with replacing the pulley and keyway - if it is damaged,then its a full engine strip to replace the crank.

 

What do you think the knocking would be?

It sounds like a diesel!

 

would presume the knocking is caused by the loose pulley, and will possibly have torn the rubber torsion damper out of the middle...........

Well i am feeling ******* lucky because i just went out and the pulley has fallen off! so i started the engine without the pas,alternator and air con and the engine is nice and smooth!

I was convinced it was my big end bearing so i am well chuffed!!!!!

I might treat my self to an under driven pulley set! what is the reccomended set?
