AS far as i understand, its the turbine size thats different, bigger you go the more it gets moved and the more boost you can make, but you get extra lag too.

MHI uses 16g 18g 20g to describe the different sizes of the compressor wheels . 16 being smaller than a 20g .TD05 , TD04 , TD06 describes the size of the turbine .u can have various combinations of compressor wheels with turbine housing. Hence u can have 16-TD05 to 20 TD05 . Td05 also comes in 7cm or 8 cm to describe the size of the nozzle area in the turbine . A 8cm will make power topend than a 7cm . The 16g also comes as 16g standard, big16 or big EVOIII 16g meaning the comp wheels are bigger , makes more HP .A standard 16 rated at about 460cfm at 1 bar, big 16 at 540cfm , EVOIII16 at 590cfm , 18g at 600cfm and 20g at 640cfm .

Ok,so on that basis which would be better for me,car is a UK MY98 running full 2 1/2" decat, ported oem headers and up-pipe STi 7/8 top mount intercooler walbro 255 fuel pump 2 port boost solenoid and standard TD04 mapped to 1.1 bar by JGM on Apexi power fc looking to make over 300BHP with different turbo and bigger injectors. Also boost solenoid would be changed for 3 port.

Don't want too much lag !!

AFAIK all standard Subaru fitment TD05s are TD05H, it's just no-one mentions it. IIRC it refers to the blade pattern of the turbine wheel. The standard TD05 with 90 degree snorkel fitted to early classics was the TD05H-16G. TD05-18G and 20G variants were never available as standard turbos from Subaru. They are all aftermarket hybrids with different compressor wheels and covers.

TD05H-16g is just a standard turbo. Good for 340bhp+
