Default check engine light on!!

Hello,

I have recently disconnected my speedo cable from the back of the clocks on my 1995 Impreza wrx import as the clocks are broken and have ordered some replacements, when i was driving home the CHECK ENGINE light came on and it won't rev above 4500rpm, can anyone tell me if it is the fact that i have disconnected the cable as to why the CHECK ENGINE light has come on, and can anyone tell me the standard code of ecu that should be fitted to my year/model, any help would be great.

Thanks
Dan.

I run Z5 from an RA. There are quite a few you could use,you could try asking Scott.T at PolarPerformance or www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk
