Default 'sloppy' gearchange

L & Gs

Some time ago i bought a MY95 WRX for the wife as a bit of a tinkering project car for me. Not bad condition but lots of minor jobs a TLC required.

I have a concern about the gearchange that you may be able to help with.

The box is fine and seems strong in all gears but the gearchange feel through the gearstick just seems 'sloppy' if you understand what i mean. The best way i can describe it is if i was driving and old car with on 'H' gate then the 3rd/4th gate would be lose and sloppy. You have to be real careful on full bore 2nd to 3rd changes to almost feel the gearstick into gear.

Can this be remedied in anyway or is it an internal problem. Would it be as simple as a bush or centering spring on the gear lever?

Anyone had anything similar?
