Default New owner info needed

Hello Everyone

I am now the proud owner of a 94 STI im very new to Scooby’s and this one came up at a very very reasonable price so could not resist especially after the test drive. The car is an import and i dont have very much knowledge on the car yet and im not 100% sure if it is a sti as it says wrx on log book?

ive been doing alot of searches and found the following info regarding everyday running of car and basic maintenance

Fuel= Shell V power provided you have the right map?

Engine oil= Motul 300v 15w60

i just have a couple more queries does anyone know where i can get a maintenance manual also can anyone recommend a good garage in the south west (live in bristol) where i can take the car to get checked over to make sure its all ok, cars done over 100k and i wanna make sure she keeps running sweet

thanks

it will need mapping for uk fuel, or you can run it on v power with sonme octain booster.

im running silkolene pro s 10w50, should be something near that.

millers is also a popular, fully synthetic is the best by the way

Some useful info here Which Car is a WRX STi.

Fuel wise ,imo, you don't need octane booster if you use V power/Tescos 99ron.
10w60 Castrol RS is used in my car

Another question the cars pops and bangs when i take my foot off the accelerator is it supposed to do that?

Also the car has been fitted with a dump valve by previous owner does this device improve the cars performance or is it just for show? as ive sort of picked up on this forum that there generally not a good idea

thanks again

Had a vta on the car when it as imported used to be fine but a year later it started causing the car to stall and **** up the fuelling so i removed mined and replaced with the standard recirc.
The popping and banging (hopefull you mean out the exhaust ) could be something to do with the vta.
A quick trip to a rolling road is a good idea as it will give you a health check on the general running on the engine (normally about £50)

how can it be to blame if the car's fine for a year? thats a bit like saying the wheels were fine till i hit a curb so they must be crap.

sounds more like the VTA was starting to fail, rather than it being to blame when in working order

It was failing therefore causing the car to stall, i was happy with it when it was working but decided not to spend money either getting it sorted when i could get a recirc fitted (for nothing) which has made the running of the car smoother, gearchanges smoother etc now i'm happier with it.

I have not advised the OP to remove his just pointing out what happened with mine.

Talking

All 94 sti`s will have a numbered plaque under the bonnet, either 1 of 100 or 1 of 200 as these were the first sti`s. Car should have sti seats and silver sti intercooler (not black. thats a wrx) and an sti strut brace.

I had dealings with Interpro years ago when I had my Cossie. Nearest place to you worth doing work on a Scoob, as far as I remember is Power Station in Tewksbury. These guys are worth a ring, they also have a rolling road if I remember rightly.

Thanks guys

did a check on the car last night and im convinced she is genuine:
im gonna get the car into a specialist asap to get it checked over

this may be a dumb *** question but what the difference between an sti and wrx, i was told it was a limited slip rear diff and forged pistons, forgive my poor knowledge ive only just begun research into the car

Because your STI is a modified wrx it won't have forged pistons i'm afraid.
All imprezas have a rear LSD but i don't know how yours differs from a wrx
