Aaargh. I thought it was B too, but the seller of these two reconned starters seems to think it is A. Indeed, he said that A is from a version 4, and B a version 5, which is the opposite to what you've just said?!?! 
. But if A fits your car then how can anyone argue with that!

Yeah, when i went down to get the starter it was a good job i took the old one with me because they gave me B first, then he checked again and gave me A

Lol, its ok mate, you are perfectly sane, lol. i forgot to change it to 1998 from 2000 when i bought my latest scooby, so you just reminded me to do it. LOL

Yes mate, I'm in utter slob mode today - can't be arsed to go outside
. I'm sure just a good look would be enough to identify it - I'll do it when I get to work on Tues. 
Is it located towards the rear of the engine (obviously because of the flywheel
)... and on the driver's side?
EDIT: Logically, it's looking like starter 'B' was fitted to the 2nd facelift Classics i.e. 1999/2000MY (?)
