Default Front oxygen sensor

I need a front o2 sensor, part no. 22641aa042, at around £300, but I've seen them at subaruparts.com in the US for around $150. The part numbers are the same so would this be OK for a UK car because around £85 with shipping is a big difference from the £300 they're asking over here.

Take your o2 sensor out and it will have either bosch or lucas stamped on it iirc. Take it to your local motor factor or auto electrition and they should be able to get you one for about £40 + VAT. My mate did this 4 years ago and its still no trouble.

O2 sensor are nearly all the same, only a few different designs (apart from wideband & narrowband).

But yes, the one from america will be ok for you car.

Thanks for the reply, it's just my car is a 51 plate bugeye and I seem to remember reading somewere that the ECU checks for a genuine oem sensor. Don't know if thats true but the part numbers the same so I'll order one from US and save £220

Exclamation

Usually the part numbers UK/US are the same, so there shouldn't be a problem getting it from the USA (apart from saving a few £££..).

As far as 3rd party O2 sensors are concerned, I'm not doubting Nick, but I was also (told by a very experienced specialist) that you can only use a Subaru sensor..!??

Maybe someone could confirm this, as price wise there's a massive difference and it's always nice to know for certain....?

I had this very problem last year on my MY01 Impreza.
The front O2 sensor is specifically made for Subaru and you can't buy a pattern part like you can for most other cars.
I got a secondhand one (which was still £100!) , API can also source them for a similar price.
As far as I could tell at the time it's usually the heater element in the sensor that dies and brings up the check engine light.

p.s. The sensors are made by Denso Japan.
I've just found the old one I took out and it has the same part number on it that you quoted. It's a four wire sensor - 2 black,1 white and 1 blue.
I remember searching the net for alternatives after the shock of ringing my local dealer for the price. There were no alternatives.

The only thing with buying from America is that customs will check the value of the goods and if it is over a set level you will get charged VAT and import duty on the total including the shipping you pay before they give you it. If its by UPS or something like that they might ask for the payment on your doorstep when they deliver. It will still be cheaper though. I think the last thing I got was about $500 altogether and I had to pay £70 on the doorstep to UPS. Customs had actually opened the invoice up for a total rather than just a declared amount on a label.

They were faster at shipping than most places here. I ordered on a Wednesday and had the stuff the next Monday.

OK, thanks for the info, $150 for the part and $25 shipping so even if customs add tvat it should'nt be much. I dont have a CEL at the minute because the sensor has'nt failed, it's just slow to respond. I'm thinking of taking it out and trying to clean it first with some switch cleaner before I order a new one.

Wink

Thought as much about it needing to be an OEM part..!

Lol, customs is worth taking a gamble with the duty, you might be lucky, especially if it's a gift from a relative..
