sorry for sounding like a bit of a mong, i have just bought my first scooby,
its a white 97 r plate import GC8 4 door, now the bloke in the garage told me it was an sti, but sum think its only a wrx.....what is the exact tell tale signs, i have looked at hundreds of pics but everything looks the same, he also even if its an sti it still says only wrx on the v5.

the closest pic iv seen is the sti wrx ra, but still not sure

Post up the full engine and chassis codes and someone will be able to tell you for certain.

chassis no is GC8 063512

 

Look for the model no eg GC8D4ED it will be stamped on the plate on the NSF inner wing.
Post it back on here and will tell ya which it is.

ok guys its a GC8E48D which tells me it a sedan ????
still same bhp as sti but whats the difference fellas

Thats a version 4 wrx. Not an sti. Sti has stronger engine, different intercoller, turbo, suspension, gearbox and interior.

 

have i read right that there still 278 bhp??

 

You may need 100ron fuel to get 278bhp but yes it should be around there

I think some of the power rating are out on the above website it shows STI's having same power as WRX's or its just the Aus market cars ??
