It is a simple electronic controller that uses pulse-width modulation to control a solenoid and hence the boost pressure at the turbo's wastegate actuator.

Sorry ! It's a cool looking "volume" control for the boost from your turbo....

P.S. I was an "engineer" till I found something easier to do....

Could be advisable or not, depends on the circumstances; need to know more about the car and your aspirations.

As an example, I'm having one fitted on Fri, the reason being that I have a classic, the ECU of which has two annoying limitations with respect to boost parameters a) drive by mode -PITA b) Lack of in gear boost compensation, so sub-optimal levels of boost and response in first 3 gears. AVCR will sort this out. BUT and this is critical, I'm having it done in conjunction with an ECUTEK map tweak at the same time so the boost parameters controlled by the AVCR and all the other parameters manipulated via ECUTEK are complimentary. After than I won't be touching the boost myself!!

I wouldn't advocate getting any kind of boost controller to just increase the boost without making appropriate alterations to the other important parameters, which is what some people get em for.

At least you can adjust the boost, to what ever level you like, within the confines of the maximum allowable boost setting, if that makes sense.

I stand to be corrected, but if you have a new age scooby i.e. Bugeye onwards, there's probably not so much to be gained: IIRC you don't have the silly emissions related drive by mode and in gear boost compensation can be mapped into the Denso ECU.

It may well offer superior boost control to that of the stand solenoid though...not sure. Best ask your mapper.
