Default Upgrade U8 ECU To What?

Hi,
Iam looking to upgrade the ECU on my MY93 Saloon preferably to a mappable model.
Anyone got any ideas as to which ECU will be best and the best place to aquire one please??
Steve.

Loads of options.

in no particular order

ESL live mapping daughterboard (Enduring Solutions Limited)
Apexi Power FC (not made for early imports anymore but some mappers still have stock)
Simtek (which is very popular on here at the mo)
Gems
Motec
just to mention a few.

The only people who can really tell is someone who deals with lots of ecus (www.JollyGreenMonster.com - Engine management specialist deals with a most) as they will have experience mapping them.

Yep. All good stuff from myblackwrx.

Prices-wise... supplied, fitted and 1st map from reputable specialist mappers...

ESL live daughterboard.... c. £600-700

Apexi Power FC... c. £800-900

Simtek... c. £1000-1100 (this rather handily junks the dreaded MAF for serious peace of mind!)

Gems, Motec and the like, are rather more expensive and are often used by the professionals/rally preparers. They do offer an awful lot of features though. However, I did notice on TEG Sport's website that they're selling GEMS units for £725 + VAT. You'd have to add fitting and first map to that price though.

If you're not bothered by fancy features, etc., then the ESL option is the cheapest way into live mapping and it uses all of Subaru's OEM input/output signals from the various sensors - including the rather helpful IAM ignition advance/retard feature of the ECU. Further remaps should cost a minumum of c.£150 too (if you go back to the mapper who did the original, first map, that is).
