Default i dont think my waste gate is working on my turbo

my waste gate doesnt appear to be moving on my 99 turbo 2000 uk. the car coughs and splutters quite badly at around 4000 to 5000rpm when im driving. ive watched the turbo when revving the car stationary, and the waste gate on the turbo doesnt open. really doin my head in! any ideas?

The actuator doesn't move when the car is stationary....you do not produce any boost as there isn't any load.....its not rev dependent.

use a mityvac on the pressure setting to open the waste gate should move about 12-14 mm and hold until you let the pressure off,if it does not hold the diaphram is split or leaking.
I would remove the heat shield,then remove the circlip dont lose this!!! and work in some wurth rost off until she moves freely

if your wastegate does not open then you will boost till destruction, the wastegate is designed to prevent the turbo from spinning too fast, so if it doesnt open/work then you will hit either fuel cut, or the turbo will destroy itself.

a mityvac is a handheld tool that allows you to put vac on a valve and see at what pressure it operates.

Have you got a boost guage fitted, if so what are you boosting at??? If not, it will be well worth fitting one, very cheap and very useful too

What is it that makes you think the wastegate is not opening?? What are the symptoms you get when driving???
