i dont think my waste gate is working on my turbo
my waste gate doesnt appear to be moving on my 99 turbo 2000 uk. the car coughs and splutters quite badly at around 4000 to 5000rpm when im driving. ive watched the turbo when revving the car stationary, and the waste gate on the turbo doesnt open. really doin my head in! any ideas?

use a mityvac on the pressure setting to open the waste gate should move about 12-14 mm and hold until you let the pressure off,if it does not hold the diaphram is split or leaking.
I would remove the heat shield, then remove the circlip dont lose this!!! and work in some wurth rost off until she moves freely

if your wastegate does not open then you will boost till destruction, the wastegate is designed to prevent the turbo from spinning too fast, so if it doesnt open/work then you will hit either fuel cut, or the turbo will destroy itself.
