Default Sports Cat Remap?

Hi,

Could use a little advice. I currently run a MY03 WRX with PPP and a high performance filter. It has been on a rolling road and made a healthy 265bhp.

My question is if I fit the Prodrive Sports Cat would I need a remap? I understand that a remap would give me the best gains but would not having it done put the engine at risk? I plan to get one done in the future but once I have collected all the other mods that I have planned.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The sports cat shouldnt need to be mapped since it isnt to do with the timing or air intake of the engine. However you might get a small mapping gain since you engine has better exhaust flow...I wouldnt bother but it depends how fanatical you are and how much money you have....Hint if you have a single sports cat with a single box....get it well hot before the MOT..less its a track car.

Yes it is wise to get it remapped for both engine safety and performance benefits. If you are happy with the PPP you will wet yourself when you experience a remap

My take on it is that a sports cat would lessen back pressure, so the engine would flow more air -> remap, but possibly the PPP isn't a "bleeding edge" map, so you might be OK anyway.

If it was me, I'd remap, but I'd fit other bits and bobs at the same time. I doubt it would be worth the 650 odd quid a first tek3 remap will set you back (incl license fee) with just fitting a sports cat.

Not a mechanic, so might be talking out of my bottom
