Default Removing downpipe, Big job?

I have just bought a milltek sports cat downpipe for my bugeye to replace the decat so it will pass MOT, is it an easy job I could do myself or am I better taking it to a garrage. Will I have room to remove the downpipe if the car is just jacked up?

It's all about getting the nuts and bolts out at the turbo....
A garage may have to cook them with a gas axe to remove, you might chew them up trying...

OK thanks, I'm not even gonna try then, I'll take it to a garage and let them struggle with it.

i got the down pipe off my classic no bother, warm exhaust with lots of wd40, once the nuts cracked with a bit of force they came off straight away. couple of them were a bit tricky to get at but not too hard. just done it off a jack aswell.

Default remove downpipe

The biggest issue is getting to the bottom nut on the turbo, on mine when i came to take it off there was no nut so the Subaru dealer had left it off after doing some work. apart from that if you have some ramps you can get the downpipe off quite easily yourself.

You can get to the bottom nut easily enough if you arm yourself with as many different sized extension bars as you can find, 3/8 universal joints and a swivel head ratchet, plenty of WD40 and a good set of sockets to ensure a tight fit.
A mate of mine went to 3 different garages who had no joy in removing his, and we did it and mine in just over 2hrs.
And i'm no mechanic.
Suppose, if a garage spends an hour on it and cant get it off, theyre loosing more money than the jobs worth.
