I'm going for a new exhaust system, basically a 3 inch turbo back system.
Stainless steel, and mandrel bent.
The EJ20 is currently a 2.2 Litre, but still has the original turbo.
Air intake is original, but I do have a foam (?) panel filter for track days.
Car is a JDM MY98 WRX Type R V-Limited. (not sti, but note the forged pistons, etc).
ECU is original, but does have a piggyback GReedy e-manage.
Would I need a boost controller, when I get the new exhaust ?
Or just if/when I decide change the turbo size ?
Any thoughts or comments appreciated.
Thx.

so I presume that the boost controller only becomes necessary when the turbo is upgraded, is that correct ?? (in the above senario)
Also......
say the car has a 3" exhaust, boost contoller and re-map, and the car is running well.
Then.....
the turbo (only) gets upgraded......
would the car need a second re-map for the new turbo ??
As you can see, this is new ground for me.

No, you wont need an aftermarket electronic boost controller, even if you upgrade the turbo, your car already controls the boost electronically IIRC this is not part of the e-manage functionality.
If you upgrade the turbo, then yes it would be wise to have this done the same time as someone fiddling around with your e-manage and or a remap depending on how much adaptation the e-manage can provide.
