Default can crank shells be fitted without a full strip down ?

just as above...i have one scoob with a noise....i think its either a tappet or similar but on the off chance its sinister...how easy is it do do these shells and can it be done without a strip down and done from underneath via sump without removing engine etc....just a wee hypothetical situation...

No, due to the layout of the flat 4 design.
The block has to be split i'm afraid.

ah bollocks....thanks chris... it may be still a dicky tappet as it seems to come noisier when cold but fades when warm and almost goes away altogether after ive leathered it somewhat ! and boosting 1.2 bar so going like stink....strange affair really... oh, its a twin turbo gtb incase anyone is wondering....stonking cars...

Try adding 1/2 litre of ATF (auto trans fluid) to your engine oil and run it for about 10 miles and then do a Oil and Filter change.
Quite often reduces the noise.

You sure its not detting ? The twin turbos can play up on the small primary turbo but then run clean once the secondary one comes in.
