Yes it can be converted and yes there have been lots of threads about it. Some quite useful ones so worth doing a search although Search is pretty useless unless you cough up a fiver for proper access.
Most comments are from people with opinions rather than actual convertees. You need to be doing a few miles - say 20k per annum, to make it worthwhile and I would get it done by a member of the LP Gas Association.

yes it does,,thanks for that.
if i buy the car i will take it to an approved fitter and through searching around on the net i have managed to find a few imprezza's fitted with an lpg conversion.
most seem to have the tank fitted into the wheel well (54 - 58L tank) and with the cost of fuel it looks like i will be having it done.
subaru was giving the option a while back to have them fitted to forresters and legacy's at the dealer from new.
it would be nice to hear from somone who has had it fitted to their turbo imprezza to see what the outcome was.

I had an omvl 21n dream system fitted to a 2001 wrx wagon , went well , but you could feel the difference on gas, but the system auto switched to petrol under heavy load so not a problem . The insurance went up from £437 to £800 though ! so check with your insurance company so you dont get a nasty shock .

i don't understand this gas thing..... if u get it installed then u pay to get it installed and tested and now u gotta declare it on insurance as well.... well i suppose that makes sense but means u pay ££££ b4 u even drive it.... if u do loads and loads of mile then yeh.. but u may as well a diesel.

I can't see why insurance would rise.
On costs the back of envelope figures are:
100,000 miles at 25 mpg = 4000 gallons of fuel = £20,000 at £5 per gallon
Fuel cost is roughly halved using gas. So £10,000 saved. Less cost of conversion say £1,500. So net saving £8,500. Enough to buy the next car
These figures are VERY approximate. dl

Insurance goes up as it is classed as a mod. But the companies do vary in their price increase. Tescos went from £437 to £800 odd and adrian flux was £600 odd with gas.
Was good as it was as economical as a diesel and at the press of a button was back on petrol for 230 bhp for when needed as on gas would go to 160bhp. But bad for mileage (30'000 in year and a half )as tended to use that car all the time and the mileage just rocketed.
