Default exhaust question, mild steel??

Any reason no-one seems to have a mild steel exhaust instead of stainless?

Discuss!

LOL because no-one who is a car enthusiast wants their new exhaust to be rusty scrap after a year.

You can get mild steel back boxes with universal fit and such, generaly fitted to the bottom end of the market by skint students etc! I had one fitted to a bit of a shedy pug 405.. the mild steel box outlasted the car

I know if there was a choice between a mild steel exhaust and a stainless steel system with a lifetime warranty...... I know which i'd buy for my car

I used to use a local guy in Rochdale who only did mild steel (EXCEPT TAILPIPES lol!) COMPLETELY handmade, any diameter pipework and removable silencers, addable silencers/repack silencer, easily change the sound if you got sick of it, aluminised steel pipework with a ten-year guarantee, change tailpipes if you wanted a different look etc I had one on an XE nova (my purple one, for the few people who've seen it on my other thread and know me) for 8 years and only replaced the rear silencer once, because I wanted different sound NOT because it rusted through!

I wondered if there was any technical reason why stainless was used. I understand the lifetime guarantee, but few people keep a car over 3 - 4 years anyway......
