Default Could do with some help with an engine problem.

Hi guys. I wonder if anyone can help me out with a problem.

My Subaru Impreza WRX (1996 Jap import) has been sitting since november awaiting repairs.

We went to start it yesterday after giving it a jump and it started. We reversed it back to its original position and knocked it off. Then we started it again to see it it would still start - it did, so we knocked it off again immediatly.

Then upon returning to the car about two hours later it failed to start, and hasn't done since.

Can anyone help? Using the self diagnosis thing I have managed to find out the following fault codes:

31 - Duty solonoid valve stays on

33 - Main duty system malfunction

Any help would be really appreciated, thanks in advance!

Yea its probably flooded. Not a good ides to cold start them and switch them straight off.

Remove the fuel pump fuse and give the engine a good crank with the throttle held flat on the floor. Then refit fuse and try to start. You may need to use the throttle to allow some air into the chambers

I dont have a classic anymore so cant look it up for you. If you cant find the fuse then un plug the pump . I think theres a connector under the rear seat. Fuel should be fine to run the car after 4 months

the batt will still be flat. it will take at least an hour to charge the batt properley.
it will misfire if there is not enough electric in the battery.

i would check the alternator if it will not run on its own,ie as soon as you remove the jump leads it stops.

How long did it turn over for after charging the battery? I would suspect your battery may have died with sitting idle for that long.
See what volts it pulls down to while cranking, or do a drop test on it.

Okay so we've narrowed it down to a problem with the fuel pump. The car has fired a couple of times but still dies after a very short while.

Does anyone know the location and the colour of the fuel pump relay on the 1996 Japanese Impreza WRX? A guy I know who is a Subaru boff should know, but I can't get hold of him at the moment!!
