knocking at tick over??

knocking at tick over??
Started the car this morning and drove 5 mins up the road to the garrage, Came back and at tick over theres a knocking noise.... 
.. Every part of me says bottom end but on my last scoob the bottom end went and it knocked right through the rev range.,. this knocks up to 1k rpm then stops. Anyone any ideas... Cheers
