Finally got my grubby mits on a TD05H turbo thats been converted to front entry Now im a mechanic my self so fitting it wont be a problem, just need to no will all the oil feed/coolent/and oil drain pipes be the same fitment? and all the std boost pipes be ok to fit on it?

Another question is...... i no ill have to obviously get it mapped, but i want to fit it myself then get the car to the place to map it, which is a good 80 miles away, he told me it should be ok to drive tho will need to move a vac pipe so dosent overboost/underfuel? he'll explain this when ive fitted it and booked the car in...

is this safe????

will be also using the std wrx injectors, think they max out at about 330bhp?? 1.3bar boost?

ive been told to expect around the 320ish mark? sound right?

well the decission was between this or a vf24 off a sti type r, opted for the td aparently a stronger unit.

swapped my standard td04 for a front entry td05,straightforward job just give every nut and bolt you can get to a good soaking of wd40 the night before,sometimes the turbo/downpipe bolts can be so siezed the only way to get them off is with an oxy torch..... oil and water pipes on mine were no problem,not sure about your injectors though as i think they are the grey ones which might will not be big enough to get the best out of the turbo,my yellow 440's are nearly maxed out,the greys are 380's..... running off boost will be fine until its set up and mapped,i ran mine for two weeks like that just pottering round,you control the throttle dont forget

The MY01 runs 380cc injectors IIRC in which case i would think they would be out of their league at 330bhp. I'm sure someone in the know will confirm

Greys are rated at 300 bhp,well below the performance max of the turbo thats to be fitted,as i said my yellow 440's are at the limit and they are generaly rated at 350 bhp

The mapper said the std injectors will be ok to 320 ish, tho will need to limit the turbo so the injectors dont reach max. what that consists of im not sure. the td05 has a lot more go in it i no but the 300 mark is fine for the time being

He will limit the ammount of boost the turbo makes when mapped to the amount of fuel the injectors can flow,poss around the 1.2 bar mark,and greys will not go to 320...be aware though that if you decide to upgrade the injectors at a later date to maxamise the turbo potential (and you will) then it will need to be mapped accordingly again,which is more expence that could be eliminated by doing everything once.

1.2 bar is plenty enought, long as see 300 ill be happy, cause then reliabilty becomes an issue

I'd definitely upgrade the injectors if I was in your shoes

My reason for saying this is that the td05 will be, well, a lot laggier and later spooling for a 300bhp set-up than a lot of other turbos (eg the td04h). This means that you'll get "the worst" (not sure worst is the correct word when we're discussing 300bhp scoobies, but I digress) from both worlds - more lag and "only" 300bhp.

If you were to change the injectors, you'd get more power, so the td05's extra power potential would (in my opinion) outweigh the later spool.

Go on son, you know you want to wring the neck of that turbo

Having said the above, this tuning malarky is a very slippery slope. Once you upgrade the injectors it will 'only' be a couple of hundred to to this, and then that and then ... been there, done that

I fitted a larger MHI to mine in a day (27th December, so an 8:30 to 3:30 day and plenty of time), no probs, no seized bolts AT ALL (99MY car reg in Oct 98), I had to swap the coolant pipes as mine were different, but that was a two minute job, biggest issue is the oil drain, but I just wrenched the turbo off it and put it on and pushed it back in no probs, I did leave teh turbo heatshield off for a few days to check for leaks as that was a long painful job to get all 9 bolts off!

I put the front of mine on ramps to drop the DP down and then stood on a pile of breeze blocks to work over the wing - make sure you don't have a metal belt buckle or Zips exposed though!

To keep it to actuator boost remove the pipe from the BCS onto the air intake pipe and block it and the hole....

If its going for a remap, if you can get injectors cheapish it makes sense to only pay for one remap - or you could fit an adjustable FPR to eke another 20 ponies out of yours with a bit more pressure.

Was advised by a well known mapper that the 01 WRX's 380s max out at 320bhp.

Yes thats what i thought, b e plenty, wrc at silverstone will be mapping it, i think anyway, i come across some 'cheap' injectors then ill get some if not stds will do, maybe look into a fpr tho......

saying that, i have a fpr here i bought when turbo'd my saxo but never fitted it.... would it work??

Can fit the fpr just leave it at normal 3 bar fuel pressure and the mapper can set it to the pressure he wants when its mapped,normally 3.5 bar ish.....

But if i was fitting one it would be a different one,xs or such like
