HI, got a 1.6 GL looking to upgrade does anyone know if a 1.8gl engine will fit into my 1.6 car without to much modification.

 

why not go for the 2.0 or just buy a turbo

 

you will need to use 1.8 gearbox as yours will have possible wrong ratios also rear diff.you could use your 1.6 items but you could run out of revs at not that high a speed due to the gearbox having wrong ratios.you will need to find out what the differences are between the 1.8 and 1.6 gearboxes and diffs.

 

bigchap is very right, i had a 205gti 1.6 once, and swwapped the engine to a 1.9 unit but kept the 1.6 gearbox. the revs run out in no time with a top speed of 105mph'ish if i remember right. but boy it flew from the traffic lights. there was no rs turbo that could beat me on a short sprint

 

lol sounds good, the reason am not goin for a 2.0 or turbo is tht am only 18 and a cant get insured lol could i run the 1800 engine off a 1.6 gearbox then??
