Should my 1996 Legacy have an immobiliser?
I am in the process of stripping a '96 Legacy estate in order to use the wiring loom and engine in a VW camper (fairly easy swap).
In order to get my money back I have sold most of the unwanted Legacy bits including the steering colum.
I have been told that post 96 models have an immobiliser fitted in the colum thats works with the key and the ECU. Sadly I did not keep these or the buyers details. My car had a cheap COBRA immobiliser fitted to the dash.
Does this mean that my car did not have the factory ignition immobiliser fitted and if not how can I check ie chassis number etc.
Will any of these column immobilisers work with the ECU once reprogrammed ie Legacy, Imprezza
Any advice appreciated for a newbie.
