Default Are all Knock sensors the same?

1)
I mean are their outputs all the same? can they be used interchangably? i have one from a non turbo subaru legacy and want to know if i can use it on my Sti6.

2)
Also How do i diagnose a dodgy Knock sensor? My car has all of a sudden stopped pulling timing out of the stock map...so i either got a bad batch of fuel or my sensor got damaged when i removed and replaced it after installing a knocklink sensor in its place temporarily. (i did tighten to 20 in/ Lb, like it says in the book, but heard a crack i suspect from tight thread not the sensor but cant be 100%)

3)
When i data log using ECU explorer, at idle if i tap my knock sensor i dont get any timing retard...is it cause its dead or do i need to be driving etc for it to register?

Maybe someone can tap their stock sensor at idle for me and see if they get ignition retard.....Please

Thanks

Somebody plz help....
id appreciate it if someone can actually tap their sensor whilst logging and tell me if it retards timing...that way i know mine is a dud. or maybe it will only pull timing when the engine is reved up and the speed sensor picks up that the vehicle is moving.

thanks
