is it correct that a 1994 RA engines are closed deck,and are 1 of the best classic engines to modify

I'm sure a better expert will come along with an exact date, but I'm sure the closed deck engine is from October / November 1994.
So it's depending on when your car was built in 1994.

i so hope mines a closed deck,if so its going to get loads of mods,come you experts put me mind at rest

I think DCR59 is right, but most probably you have one.
Why worry though?

If you are doing bolt-on mods an open block is good for 400 mapped correctly if an Sti/R/RA as the pistons are good forged units.

If you are going over 400 then the engine will have to come apart to do that anyway.

You can get a servicable CDB for £250 ish and I know someone with a row of them on a shelf!
