The boost has already been raised over standard as it has the ppp, you might be able to get a little more from it, but this will effect the fuelling, and should really be avoided.... unless you have things to monitor such things......

Pretty sure no impreza were made with the PPP as standard but were an optional extra (you paid more) so were put on after the car was made.
Checking that the car is fine first (a rolling road session is a good way to find if the boost/fuelling is fine) would be a good start before you start raising boost.

0.5 bar isn't the right boost level in the first place for your car it should be 0.9bar as standard.
Whoever told you to spend £1000 is taking the **** as you have a problem with your boost although 215bhp is standard for your year car.
I wopuld take it to someone who knows a lttle bit more then the people you took it to (were they trying to sell you an ecu upgrade?)
There are plenty of DECENT specialists out there do a quick search on here for recommendations.
