Default Advice before re map

My car is getting mapped by Andy F on the 9th January. I am fitting ported headers, up pipe, AFPTD04 hybrid turbo, downpipe, pink injectors and fuel pump prior to the re map.

I have a fairly good idea of how to go about it but having never done it before I thought I would ask for advice and tips on fitting the parts. A step by step guide would be much appreciated.

I will be doing the exhaust and turbo on the Saturday or Monday before for which I will have access to a ramp. The the injectors and pump will be done the day before.

From experience, I would lubricate all nuts & studs a few days before with some decent penetrating oil and keep doing it every day if possible (Not too much, just a little squirt ). They are extremely prone to either seizing or damaging threads when being removed, two of my collector bolts sheard trying to remove them but I had some "spares" in stock

I would also recommend new exhaust gaskets on all the joints (8 in your case I think), they cost a bit but well worth not having to remove the parts again.

Get some new seals for the base of the Injectors also (Approx £13 for 4 from dealer). Trust me, that IS NOT a job you want to do twice.

Depending on your downpipe choice you may also have to "mod" your turbo hear shield a little to get it to go back on, so have some grinding / cutting tools handy also.

Have you also considered replacing the Intercooler, scoop and tray?

You are fine fitting the fuel pump at any time before mapping but as you already seem to know, once the injectors are fitted although will drive fine a cruise etc, it behave really strange on boost

If I think of anything else I will let you know...Dan

Default Re Advice

Hi Dan,

Thanks for thatr advice. I have bought all new gaskets and bolts etc required for the fit. I have been trying to get an sti intercooler but have had no joy. Can get one for about £250 - £300 but this is way too much just now after what I have just spent out. Andy said my intercooler would be fine but maybe upgrade it before the summer.

If you know where I can get one cheaper or anyone selling one then could you let me know.

Cheers Mark T
