Question VVT not working - help

Bugeye STi7 2.0 ltr changed to 06 STi 2.5 engine.
The original STi 7 ecu has been kept. The old VVT cam sensors (rear) installed on the 2.5 and the cams machined for 4 'pips' as on the 7. That seems to work ok as I can get the cam position read-out from the ecu and no CEL.

On close examination I found that the new 2.5 engine had mysteriously grown the same VVT solenoids as the old 2.0 engine. I think the scrap dealer I purchased it from had sold the new ones or something, anyway the fitting is slightly different and the new ones have an angled connector intead of a 90 degree one I am told.

On the Dyno it was clear that the VVT was not working although the ecu was calling for solenoid activity nothing much was happening.
So my questions for those who know these things is,

1. will the STi7 cam drive solenoids work on the 2.5 STi motor with a suitable adapter to hold it in place.

2. and or will a STi 7 ecu drive the 2.5 solenoids if I get some. (I measured the resistance on the STi 7 ones at 7.3 Ohms)

Please help, it seems VVT is worth about 55hp and a whole lot of torque around 3k rpm and on up and I don't want to buy (expensive) new ones unless I'm sure they will work.

I did hear a rumour that there was a recall on STi 7 solenoids by Subaru but I'm in Africa and nothing was heard from Subaru South Africa. Anybody have their's recalled?
