Default any help or advice welcome

i have a early 93 impreza. when i bought it the temp gauge went up to hot so i stopped found that the coolant wasnt circulating no hot air from heater. removed and checked thermosthat and found to be faulty so replaced also rad cap.was running fine untill the other day temp gauge started to raise past the normal running temp again but come back down again and was ok has happened a couple of times now also lose hot air from heater. have ckecked for blockages ok, but not checked matrix any ideas anyone help and advice appreciated

im having the same problem,and now the car wont start...seems to be head gasket!

i suspected head gasket but not sure as i can run the car round town leave on idle and doesnt get hot but on the open road is when the temp has rised, i would think it would over heat when on idle and running round town not on the open road when you are getting the air flow
