I have been reading on various subaru forums, that if you decat (frontpipe) the CEL light is on the dash? is this true? does a sports cat make a difference to just a straight down pipe? was going to and prefer just a pipe, no sports cat........

As long as its got 2 lamba holes in the pipe, wouldnt have thought the light would be on would it?

You have three cats on a 01 WRX, up-pipe, down pipe & front pipe pipe.

As long as you keep one, the CEL shouldn't come on.

I ran my STi 02 with no cats and it was fine until it was mapped and the extra fuel brought it on now and again.

 

3 theres one under the car which is removed and one it the down pipe???????

There one in the up-pipe from headers to turbo, one in the down-pipe from turbo to exhaust & one in the front pipe of the exhaust.

You have three on your wrx as standard unless somebody has already removed the up-pipe one.

 

three as Nick said... CEL for cats can be disabled when remapped.

AHH COOL, WELL WILL BE REMAPPING SOMETIME NXT YEAR, IT WONT EFFECT THE RUNNING OF THE CAR REMOVING THEM? THE ONE IN THE UP PIPE WILL BE STAYING THE I THINK UNTILL CAN AFFORD HEADERS LOL

 

it may well over boost yes with no downpipe cat.
