Default What to do with my spare closed deck 2.0L block

Decisions decisions.

am at a bit of a quandry about this.

I currently have in my car a standard EJ257 short motor. I have everything in place to take it to the next level including a rotated turbo setup more than capable of over 500bhp.

If I am to achieve this level which has always been my target from day one of subaru ownership four years ago then I will have to buy rods and pistons for the 2.5.

My problem is then the reliability of the standard unlinered semi closed deck EJ257 block.

I have in my garage and have had for some time a 2.0L closed deck block complete with oil squirters.

Do I ...
Just buy rods and pistons for the 2.5?

use the 2.5 crank, 2.0L CDB and get some stoker rods and pistons for a 2.1 build?

get the 2.0L CDB bored and sleeved for a closed deck 2.33 conversion, again with my existing crank, and buy some stroker pistons and rods?

or finally get the 2.0L CDB bored and sleeved for a closed deck 2.5 conversion and use my existing crank and buy some rods and pistons.

opinions and advice appreciated

Daz

Or another option would be to sell the 2.0 CDB and your EJ257 short motor, use the money to get a EJ22T + rods + pistons and crank to make it a 2.35. This will be as tough as the 2.1 using the CDB, but should have better torque.

I know of at least one person who can still source used EJ22T's. PM if you need details.

There are also a few places who now do a CDB 2.5.

With regard to liners, there seem to be mixed experiences: Some people have no probs at all, with others the liners drop within a 1000 miles ... it does all seem a bit random. There is a good article about this on 22b.

Sorry I am giving you more options and not helping to narrow them.

been looking at going over 500 myself and from what i've been told the ej257 wont take the required boost (alst one they tried it on split three bores lol)

think realisticly your gonna need to go downt he 2.33/2.35 closed deck block and rotated turbo (eg gt35r) and you should geta reliable 500 if built correctly, well as reliable as 500bhp can be

Sell the CDB.
Fit top hat liners to the 2.5
Wind the boost to find the golden 500 x 500+

Alternative:
Sell the lot as a group of desirable engine parts.
Buy a Crawford/Axis 2.5 with top hats etc all built for a pleasent cost as the $ is a great rate atmo. It will rev to 8K too.

If your using the GT30R then I would go with the 2lt or 2.1 and if you haven’t already then start to think about replacing the valves exhaust side at least.

Get the 2.5 block linered, Mike & Scoobymania is soon to be doing one for me and very reasonable cost.

Alternatively you can stroke the 2.0 with the rods you have and I can point you in the right direction where you can get pistons in standard bore or oversize

I can't fault the EJ257, RCM built for me back in 2004.

Back on topic.

The Eagle rods have long gone, they were sold with my built 2.0L short motor.

I'm favouring the 2.1 option at the minute.

my 2.0L cdb kept as it is. my 2.5 crank and a set of high compression stroker pistons and some very strong rods. Then run the turbo at 2 bar peak.

That should do the trick I think

I am not totally done on the check issue!

The reason I keep mailing you is that this has been the message for two months now. As I wrote you I would like the contact information for the postal service and the case ID, in that way I can try to contact them myself. I am finding it strange that they agree to pay you back the money, but it then takes more than two months for them to send the check.
