Default Difference between WRX and WRX RA?

My gearbox has gone on my 1993 RA and was thinking of putting a standard WRX box in.

Just wanted to know if there was much difference in the accelaration etc between the two?

Do they use the same diff etc for a direct swap?

Thanks

Think you will find the early (I take it it's a JDM) WRX RA and SA used the 4.111 front and rear diffs and a box that is basically the same ratios as a JDM 1.8 model AWD. 1st 3.454 2nd 2.333 3rd 1.750 4th 1.354 5th 0.972 with a 4kg centre diff.

Not sure about diff ratios for UK models, but most standard early WRX JDM boxes were 4.111, gearbox ratios are different tho' and not as closely spaced (they will give you a better 5th overdrive 0.736 I think). Aussie WRX boxes are definately not compatible as they use 3.900 front diff 1.1 reduction and 3.545 rear diff....recipe for disaster with a 4.111 box.

Thanks Yes mine is a JDM 1993 RA

My trans code is TY752VB3BA

And was thinking of going for the TY752VB3AA

Am I right in thinking the VB3AA is from the JDM WRX ?

I'm kinda looking for similar accelaration but an improved top end mainly for motorway comfort

Am I right in thinking the VB3AA is from the JDM WRX ?

Don't do it, fitting a WRX box will spoil it. I could never go to that box after the RA box.

Yep...it's a 93 WRX box, 4.111 each end, ratios 3.454 2.062 1.448 1.088 0.825, not nearly as good a slingshot effect as the RA box. If you can salvage 2nd to 4th from the RA I'd do it and use the 0.825 5th for the better motorway performance.

I'm running a 96 V2 RA CR box in mine with 3.9 plated/helical each end, DCCD and I wouldn't trade it for the world even if it is on 3350 at 60(100kmh) in 5th. It's just too much fun on the track.
