Default need help with my 93 classic wrx import

well it's doing my head in, the probled started when i got the car,

the car starts and drives fine up to 4.5 grand but as soon as you hit 5000 rpm it is like hitting a rev limiter with no back fireing or poping or banging, it as a de limiter fitted to the gear box, and also as a hks electiric boost controller fitted, any help would be great.

do you get a check engine light on? Sounds like in limp mode. Also do you have a boost gauge? if so see what boosting too. Heres a list of what to check in no particulare order.

Check for CEL, do ecu check
Check boost levels if possible with boost gauge
Check coil packs. Car that age will probably need replacements as they break down over age.
Check plugs
Check boost hoses etc, in particular the inercooler o throttle body hose, this can come off under boost however when the car cuts out/throttle lift etc, the vacuum sucks it back on!

1. no the engine light doesn't come on,
2. running at 0,9 boost.
3. i have checked all the boost pipes,
4. i have new plugs ready to put in it, and will check the coil pack at the same time,
5. am running a mines ecu, on the car when i bought it, also changed it at one point to a standard ecu just to make sure it wasent my ecu but still did it on the standard ecu.
6. am running a fmic, have also checked all pipe work.

Si, I think the speedo limits the engine to 4,500rpm (as it's currntly doing on my car!).

Is the car hitting fuel cut (head through windscreen type holding back) or does the car just run out of puff (accelerates, and then is reluctant to go any faster without any dramatic lurching)?

that sounds like its in limp mode to me, could also be down o the boost controller though. Maybe disconect the boost controller and run standard boost control to see if that boosts higher

right, i have disconected the boost controller and gone back on to the standard boost set up and there is no difference, could it be the dump valve blowing off to quickly????
as when i rev it out it pop's off quicker then my 96 sti,
i have plumbed all the piping up as same as my sti but still doing it.

you could check the plugs to see if they are wet which could be a sign of running rich which it will be if the dump valve is dumping when it shouldnt dump. (or easier to try a known working dumpvalve )
