Default FMIC etc, etc....

I know this has been done over and over again, just finding it hard to sift through all the info! I`m halfway though a rebuild on a 99V5 STi, i will be needing a FMIC and associatd gubbins.

No i`m thinking for the FMIC a GT spec would be a good idea, as in a tube and fin design, so where can you get one from at a reasonable price? Found a group buy or 2 but none of em seem to be going anywhere.

I know i`m going to have to replace the air box with an induction kit of some sort, i`ve heard various horror stories, so just wondering what was considered to be the best of this lots to use, price not really an issue, just somthing that works well. Also not 100% sure yet if i will still have MAF or not, so a MAF freindly one would be a good idea!

Finally the dump valve, best to just use the standard one on a bracket or find an aftermarket one? Really don`t care about makinf noise etc, again just wnat something that works well.

Any advice apriciated

What sort of power are you going for and what will be the spec of your car?

I had the same questions when going fmic on my version 5. I wouldn't know where to suggest you get one but I can recommend the hybrid tube and fin ones. It seems to be designed to fit on a version 5 really well, you still need to remove a scary amount from the front bumper though.

For a dump valve I sourced a standard one form an earlier car, as you know the version 5 bolt on ones will not fit without an adaptor plate. Standard one worked out cheaper.

The induction kit you will require is the most crucial descision though. I looked at all the alternatives and the apexi power intake was head and shoulders above the rest. Great filtration and above all maf friendly. If you do end up keeping the maf make sure you use the bracket that comes with the kit as the vibration associated with induction kits kills mafs as fast as using the wrong filter. I made up an additional bracket to hold it drum tight, just in case.

1) I cannot help with.

2) Depending on your ultimate power goal will have an effect on the size filter you'll need, If it sub 400bhp then an Apexi cone works well and are dry filters so it will not contaminate the MAF, if your after more power something like a large Green cotton or K&N cone (not dripping in oil) will be better, Whatever filter you get make sure it's secured to the inner wing as it the vibration that really kills MAF's especially the 99>.

3) After I fitted my FMIC I opted for a Forge re-circ, and after fiddling with the springs it worked well, but it's all down to personal preference I guess.

Cheers guys!

Engine will be a forged 2.5, final decision has not been made yet regarding turbo and managment, it will be somewhere along the lines of MD321T and maybe Simtek ECU, hence maybe no MAF. Not really chasing figures but i`d imagine somewhere just the happy side of 400bhp.
i have managed to cotact a guy on here who can provide me with a GT spec FMIC, so that descision is pritty much sorted.
I had looked at the apexi power intake but wasn`t quite sure if it would be big enough for 400+ but then had found the K+N and was just concerned it would eat MAFs.
As for dump valves, getting one from an earlier car is something i hadn`t thought of. I`ve seen the recirc ones that scoobyclinic offer just seemed a tad expensive. But then again all the e-bay ones are VTA which i would prefer to avoid. Much thinking to do!
