Default Advice and Assitance please

Hi, I'm going to view an 02 Reg WRX STI with Prodrive pack this weekend which I believe runs 305bhp with Prodrive pack?

Anyway that aside i'd be most grateful if you guys could assist me as you own the cars and will know much more than I do.

The current owner has had the car for the last 5 years with is a + point in my book.

The car has a full Subaru Service History and sits on 41,000 miles.

1.) Any usual weaknesses or common problems I should be aware of to look out for?

2.) Is there any services I need to consider? which are the big services 50,000? 60,000?

3.) Do the clutches / gearbox require changing often? any common issues faults.

4.) Turbo life, granted it's running standard boost and power and looked after correct what sort of life will these live and if it dies what sort of cost would I be looking at (rough estimate)

Generally it's just those i'm concerned with, I don't want the turbo or clutch dying on me if I take it away.

if it a genuine car, well looked after and low miles etc it should never give bother.not many things to watch out for apart from knocking rear struts.in short if it drives well and looks genuine then you can't really go wrong. imho

Just make sure you ask if its an sti with added ppp. Or an 'sti prodrive'. In 02 the was a special edition prodrive version. Which was a slightly different body style. It wasnt fiited with the ppp 305ps upgrade as standard. Although it still could have been fitted at a dealer just like any other ppp.

It's supposed to be an WRX STI with Prodrive pack added.

What I don;t understand is when I run an insurance quote (and it's happened on about 6 now) and put the plate in it appears as a

WRX UK300 model.

Subaru : STi Type UK Prodrive

Now thats not an STI is it? sorry if that sounds dumb, It's just from the pics i'd assume it was an STI is it possible it's been converted and the parts have been passed over or is there an easy way to tell as insurance companies think thats a WRX UK300

I think the 46,000 mile service is a big one, it includes the cambelt change

as for clutches it all depends on the last driver for instance if he/she just sat at the lights on an incline and not used handbreak every time it will have more were and tear than most its a gamble for that part on evey car just trust your own insticts wen test driving it as long as its not right at the top shouldnt be too bad wouldnt stop me from buying the car that i wanted

That is an sti prodrive and according to the ad also has ppp. So the best of both worlds. Has the wrap round covers on the front bumper, the prodrive style headlights. etc

<----- veiw mine

Make sure you do say to insurance its an sti prodrive with ppp as i found it cheaper to insure than an sti with ppp. Dont know why. thats insurance for you.

Alot of these things depend on the driver

Mines now on 70,000 miles with same clutch, gear box etc. I did change my turbo at around 60,000 but only for more power, I was running about 330 at 1.5bar boost for 40 of those on standard turbo and it was still going strong when removed.
