Assuming its a UK Turbo - TD04.

This will not get over 300bhp, normally 270-280.

I have a MY00, and with exhaust swap, panel filter swap and a remap it produced 273bhp/273lbft.

To achieve over 300bhp you will need to swap to a bigger turbo:

TD04H, TD05, VF22/23/28/34/35 etc.

Have a look at Andy Fs site, lots of cracking info:

AndyForrestPerformance

Your year of car also cannot be remapped via Ecutek, so will need something like an Apexi Power FC - supplied, mapped and fitted for £795 through Andy F and I assume other people will charge about the same.

Just to add to Sti's excellent comments

270-280bhp, effective and resonably cheap upgrade. Although if you're on the std clutch, you should prob budget for that to give up!

Above 300lbs ft torque things get more expensive, it's not just a case of strapping on a bigger turbo, and gearbox life becomes a real concern. If that gives up, you're looking at a big bill cause its only economcially sensible to change it for a stronger one e.g. 6 speed or PPG.

Exactly Ns

That's why I swapped the clutch before I remapped, and also why I am probably going to stick to the TD04 as I am concerned about the 'box

Oh, and I do mainly town driving so pretty pointless getting a bigger turbo for me, as I would probably slow my progress down!

You'd be ok with a VF35 and ported headers on the later point mate - i's still a quick spooling turbo with a low boost threshold

As for the gearbox....well

i have a uk 98,ecu couldn't be mapped so i went for the apexi power fc mapped by jollygreenmonster, clutch started slipping on setting up now all sorted running around 270 -280 ,next stage which i'm going for is around 320-340 so i'm now upgrading injectors, fuel pump, turbo vf35 & then a remap.
