Default How can you diagnose if your actuators working

Does anyone know how you can tell if your actuator is working properly ... what would symptons be if its not

if it was not opening then you would run mega boost until your engine expired. If your lucky you would keep hitting fuel cut.
If it is always open then you would experience slow spool up and possibly less boost.

If you have a boost guage thats your best way of checking.

what problems are you experiencing?

If it is always open then you would experience slow spool up and possibly less boost.
If it is permanently open then the car acts like a N/A, 0 PSI boost. Had this happen to me once when the E clip on the actuator rod came loose, and the rod end disconnected from the wastegate.

My car wasn't boosting right (should hold at 16 PSI, was only reaching 14 PSI...) until I tightened the actuator rod.

this is wot is happening to my car so where is the actuator rod
i get 12psi when i shoud get 14/16psi

The actuator rod is near the top drivers side of the turbo.


Looks like this (note this is not an impreza turbo but the actuator will look similar):

thanks m8 just had a look at mine it is well rusty but there is no play in the rod so if you ajust the rod will you get moor boost

Mine had no play in it either but shortening it a few turns still helped

I wouldn't go mad! 1/2 turn or at most 1 full turn should be more than enough, or there is something else wrong??

to tighten the rod do you just turn the rod itself or do you have to open up the actuator?

ive been told,that the one on mine,is not a tdo5 actuator,its a tdo4,there is no ajustor on it,is this true?

the car is a 94 wrx
