Default Impreza 2000 idiling problem

My 2001 model impreza 2000 has an idiling problem. Starts fine but once warm and your out and about, stop at the lights and it nearly cuts out, or just leave it still the engine idles really low. Thought it was the forge dump valve so put original back but it still doing it. Please help.

Is it a classic? If so the MAF sensor is a common fault on these. Mine has had 3. Is the idle hunting up and down? It sounds like MAF failure to me. To check, disconnect the MAF while the engine is running, if it continues to run then the ecu has learned how to cope with it failed. If it cuts out time to start investigating elsewhere.
It is not advisable to drive too long with a failed maf, as this can cause fuelling issues, so take it easy until the problem is solved.

they can still cut out when you unplug a failed maf.

A new MAF usually fixes.

Be v careful with the car in the meantime

Unpluged maf sensor while engine running and car cut out so still disconnected i started it and it was like the problem was still there. Have taken maf sensor out and cleaned with petrol. Seems to be working great but will buy new one. Cheers guys.
