Default AFR GUAGE GONE WONKY??

Having problems with my afr.The other night i went out for a drive and noticed my afr guage wasnt working right,it was constantly in the red and when you put the foot down it dropped off the scale with no reading at all.Approx 5 miles down the road the check engine light came on then went off again after about 30 secs to a minute.I checked the fault codes but nothing came up and the car still drives fine with no problems but the afr is still the same, what can it be??The car is a 99 uk turbo with various mods and sods, any help on this matter would be most appreciated as i dont want to do any damage to my pride and joy.

possibly maf but take it easy DO NOT run it with any vigour till you get it sorted as running lean will cook pistons, trust me i had a dodgy maf and am currently rebuilding my engine
