How do I tell if my Scooby is chipped?
How do I tell if my Turbo 2000 has been chipped or remapped? Where is the ecu and how do I check? Reason being I want to chip or remap it, whichever is best. Cheers.

Under the carpet in the passenger footwell is a silver coloured panel. Remove this (4no 10mm nuts). The ECU is in there. Open the ECU (four bloody tight screws so be careful you don't round them off) and look for a chip on the bottom left of the PCB.
Myblackwrx has a picture somewhere.

The info above is for an early classic. Your ecu will be in the same place but I'm not sure if that one can be chipped or mapped. Have a looksy at it. Someone else will be able to give you a deffo answer.

Just had a look. Its there and its a closed unit by the looks. Its got a little HKS black box wired into some of the wires. Think ill have to take it somewhere for someone to look at.

As a Dec 98 you are close to the cusp between a version 4 and version 5 car.
The version 4 car (VIN GC8E***) should have an 8S ecu as standard. This is difficult to chip (only a couple of companies offer it, it is expensive and inflexible). In this case, your best bet is to use something like an apexi pfc (very cheap for this year) or spend about twice this on other aftermarket options.
If your car is a version 5 (GC8F***) then your ECU is reflashable, you will need to find your nearest ECUTEK dealer. Best remove the fuel cut defender just before the reflash in this case.
If you have a fuel cut defender, it is possible your car has a manual boost controller or similar, might be worth checking this as well before remapping.
