DETONATION-how it feels!
Can anyone describe how DET. presents when driving whether boost on/off????
My Sub is running GEMS ecu, Aquamist, RCM LWGHT Pulleys/Flywheel....rest is Standard WRX engine with De-cat.
Gems mapped by Steve Simpson.
My Sub has been Overheating aswell as poss. Missing??...Detonation??
Reg. pit stops for water cooling are probs.
The radiator has slight leak, but nothing to the amount req. @ pitstop time.
Been suggested could be headgaskets!! does anyone have suggestions as to problem??
Come on guys, I was told if I got access to this forum that "ISSUE" would be sorted pronto!!!........
Thanks.

Why do you think it is detonation?
detonation has nothing to do with overheating
detonation can occure when on full boost and to much timing or a to lean mixture is used. It can destroy your engine.
but from the sound of it you have an overheating problem which most probably is caused by some problem in the cooling system.
So look for gasbubbles in the expansion tank or slutch build up, this might indicate a headgasket problem.
check the thermostate and waterpump

You'll be more prone to det. if you're engine's running hot, - so stay off boost until you've got the cooling fixed.
It sounds like an erratic tinkling noise, but best to use det-cans to hear it safely.
If you suspect a gaskets gone, then you could be running super-lean in one or more of the cylinders, so if det does'nt get you, a mechanical failure of the head and/or block will.
