Rollcage Fitment - Advice required!
Hi Guys,
I have the OMP 10 point bolt in roll cage (FIA approved) to fit in my93 type RA. I am trying to make sure that i fit this to the required standard. It is a through-the-dash job, but I have a couple of questions.
Does anyone know if there are requirements for the positioning of the door bars, ie how far from the floor or at what height/angle they should be fitted. There are specific guidelines with the cage with regards to the welding of the plates at both front and back of the cage, but it seems starnge that i can find no info about the height/angle of the door bars, which can be fitted anywhere. You cut them to length yourself.
Also, the front cage legs which go through the dash where the drivers and passengers airvents are already have the rectangular brackets welded to them so how do you fit it through the dash without completely hacking the **** out of it?
Your hgelp is required as there is not a lot in the way of experienced specialists all the way down here on the Isle of Wight!

IMHO: only.
The door bar height is set by your seat position and where your pelvis/hips are as that is the protection 'zone'.
Ones I've seen have the bar lvel with the top of the racing seat sides of the seat bucket.
Some seats are very deep compared to others.
If the bar is too high getting out (quickly) will be a real pain if on fire etc. Think carefully.
Find pics of rally cars and their drivers and you will see what i mean.
Hacking the dash is standard proceedure....

I have fitted an OMP cage and it is a little tricky around the dash area as there are few option to make it really tidy. If you need any advice or a chat about the cage feel free to give me a call 07771767874. I fitted one to a version 2 STI Ra and the door bars took a bit of measuring to get right. As stated above it is wise to install the seats and then work out the best height for the bars. There is nothing worse than snapping the indicator stalk off every time you prise yourself in the car!
