Question Pre-mapping upgrade advice...

I am considering having my MY05 WRX with PPP remapped (On a budget ).

Would it be feasible to fit the STi PPP down-pipe ("Sports cat") and a de-catted up-pipe (Possible again from an STi) onto my Blitz NUR Spec R exhaust to give me the best flow whilst still using my current middle and back box (I think that makes sense)?

I don't want massive power, 300bhp would be great but from what I read I don't think this will be enough of an upgrade to reach that and as others says, drive the car first, then look at the figures.

Also, has anyone done a similar upgrade that could tell me their experience of the whole remapping saga, pro's and con's etc?

Thanks for any advice offered...D-an-W

to be honest it would work out cheaper tp fit full decat downpipe rather than sport cat, defo decat the uppipe these can be had quite cheap second hand.
if it is a 2.0ltr engine you might want to think about changing injectors as the standard are only 380cc.
i have recently done some mods and had remap not sure about power output but the car drives so much better and seems to do more mpg.

view my scooby for details of mods i have done i reckon it probably cost me about £500-£600 plus remap cost of £650

View my scooby mate, did this to my old WRX but without the blitz. You would need full decat to get close to a real 300bhp but TBH its just a number, and with 235 at the wheels I was well happy.

Thanks for the prompt replies folks!

I didn't really want a full de-cat, 1: To keep it legal & 2: The Blitz is loud enough! Are these reasons valid enough

One of my "problems" is the blitz goes down to the original bore size where it meets the PPP decat and having spent all that on an exhaust I can't really justify replacing it which is why I was considering using STi parts which as far as I know will go straight on, would that be too restrictive then?

You just need a Sports Cat and decat Uppipe. It is restrictive but not becasue of the 2.5". You gain much by getting the uppipe decatted, and you stay legal. Get them wrapped if you can stretch to it. Infact because I wasn't changing the turbo or upgrading further I had the Uppipe made to 45mm internal diameter on the recommedation of Mocom Racing.

uppipe deffo worth doing... not sure for the money and effort the sti ppp downpipe is much better..

your standard turbo is a 280bhp turbo give or take a bit so you won't make the 300 with it.

Driveability can be greatly improved as well as power increased over standard map

So, with just an up-pipe and a remap I would notice a difference over PPP, faster spool up and more midrange torque for example? This has all probably been asked before but not when I am paying

JGM, where are you based as I haven't decided on a mapper yet and location is going to factor in my choice

Thanks again

This is interesting as I also have a WRX and would like more bhp. I currently have one of the cats removed, new mid section and back box, K&N panel filter, HKS ssqv.

What would be the next step?? uprated fuel pump and ecu remap?
How much would a re-map cost? roughly?

Would anyone know if the Up & Down Pipe from a WR1 (PPP as standard...right ) would fit onto my MY05 WRX?
